IN MIKE'S WORDS

I recently completed a 35+ year successful career, which includes 25 years at Microsoft and 10 years in Aerospace Engineering. My most recent role at Microsoft was as Chief Procurement Officer (CPO), which included responsibility for developing and executing Microsoft’s indirect procurement strategy and leading a global team of 250+ employees serving 130 countries with accountability for a multi-billion dollar annual addressable spend.

Along with current members of The Simms Group, I developed and implemented a Procurement Quality Management Framework and established an industry-wide group of CPOs and Procurement Leaders to further advance and govern a best-in-class set of procurement processes and standards. My team became the first Procurement function in the world to achieve certification to the resulting and rigorous COPC Indirect Procurement Standard. Now, I co-chair the Indirect Procurement Council, which consists of many of the world’s top brands, including Abbott, ADP, Cisco, Eaton, Google, Meta, Harley-Davidson, HPE, Magna, Nike, ServiceNow, Stryker, UnderArmour, and Western Michigan University. On a more personal note, I proudly support the arts community in my hometown by serving on the Board of Directors at the Kirkland Performance Center (KPC).
